There is a narrator, known as the Storyteller -- sometimes referred to as the Narrator. He is voiced by Jeff Bennett. He plays a big part in the show, as he controls what happens in the story. He is able to talk to the characters of the show, and vice versa. In fact, he was once captured by Dark Lord Chuckles the Silly Piggy, and was forced to read narration where Dave loses to him.

This show is a favorite amongst celebrities, those who are known to be fans of it include actor Jim Carrey, actor Johnny Depp, absurdist John Cleese, actor Steve Martin and professional wrestler John Cena. It was heavily rumoured Christy Carlson Romano was a huge fan of the show but she said in a 2006 chatroom interview that she has never seen the show. Before his death Gregory Peck accidentally got an unfinished black and white copy of the pilot episode and sent it back, congratulating them for finding the next Mickey Mouse. The children of absurdist Spike Milligan have praised the show in interviews and have said that their father would have been a huge fan of the show if he'd been alive when it aired.fact

Cancellation?
Dave the Barbarian, though surprisingly praised by critics, was mysteriously put on hiatus. It is unknown what Disney Channel plans to do with the series. While the show continues to air on the Disney Channel and while IMDB still lists the show as being in active production, there is good reason to believe that the show may actually have been cancelled. Only one season, composed of 22 episodes, was produced, unusually short for a Disney show, where the norm is usually around 65 episodes.

It has been speculated by fans that some reasons for its possible cancellation were that the show was not too well received; an actor who played one of the main characters in the show may have quit; and/or Disney possibly needed money for a show that came after it and that they couldn't budget both.
