Le tracce sono state scelte dai membri superstiti del gruppo [[Jimmy Page]], [[Robert Plant]] e [[John Paul Jones]] a rappresentanza dei loro otto [[album discografico|album]]. Insieme all'edizione "base", verrà messa in commercio un'edizione Deluxe con un DVD contenente molti contenuti video precedentemente rilasciati in ''[[Led Zeppelin DVD]]''. Verrà rilasciat anche un'edizione in 4 [[LP]]. L'intero catalogo di canzoni del gruppo è disponibile sull'[[iTunes store]] dal giorno del rilascio di Mothership.

La cover dell'album è stata realizzata da [[Shepard Fairey]].
