Fabric softener is used to prevent [[static cling]] and , obviously, to help fabric feel softer. Popular brand names include Downy and Bounce. Most [[washing machines]] have a dispenser to add fabric softener to a load of laundry automatically. Liquid fabric softener is added near the end of a wash cycle, either automatically or by the user. Another form is dryer sheets. These are added to clothing in the [[clothes dryer]] to soften and prevent static. Dryer sheets can also be used to keep clothes smelling good while being stored.
