Frequently heralded as "the greatest drummer in the United States", In [[2003]], in a rare and surprising move, he announced his intentions to leave the band in order to pursue a career as a physician. He currently attends medical school in Chicago. In late [[2004]], rumors began circulating on the Internet that after he finishes medical school, Michael, or "Mike" as he is known by fans, would rejoin the band.
