A girl named Kara (played by [[Adrianne Palicki]]) appears in the ''[[Smallville (TV series)|Smallville]]'' television series episode "Covenant," claiming to be from Krypton, although she does not call herself Supergirl or Kara Zor-El or claim to be Kal-El's cousin. She was mentioned only by Clark that she was his cousin when Lana asked who she was, which served more as a nod to comic fans at the time. Like some comic book versions were depicted at times, the Kara on ''Smallville'' appears to be sexually attracted to Clark Kent. The series reveals that Kara is not actually Kryptonian, but an innocent girl named Lindsey Harrison. An [[artificial intelligence]] representing Clark's birth father [[Jor-El]] kidnapped, brainwashed, and gave superpowers to Lindsay with the intent of forcing Clark to confront his Kryptonian heritage and follow his destiny. In the end, Kara vanishes and "Jor-El" says that she had "served her purpose."

According to an exclusive in TV Guide, Kara Zor-El (aka Supergirl) will be appearingappear in the program's seventh season, beginning with the season premiere. According to producer [[Alfred Gough]], sheKara was sent off offrom Krypton at the same time as was Kal-El, but has been in suspended animation for the past 16 years. She isAs the daughter of [[Zor-El]], theshe brother of Jor-El,is Clark's Kryptonian fathercousin. She will help Clark learn more of his kryptonian roots, and being his cousin, give him some much needed family. SheSupergirl will have all of the same powers as Clark plus one more, thatwith beingthe sheaddition canof flyflight.
