== Storia del gruppo ==

I Sopwith Camel vennero formati a [[San Francisco]] nel 1965 dal cantante e sassofonista Peter Kraemer.<ref name=RS>{{cita web|url=https://www.rollingstone.com/music/features/sopwith-camel-19870910|titolo=Sopwith Camel: Where Are They Now?|accesso=16 ottobre 2025|lingua=en}}</ref> Oltre a lui, la formazione contava i chitarristi Terry MacNeil (che cambierà nome in Nandi Devam nel 1979) e William Sievers, il bassista Martin Beard e il batterista Norman Mayell. Nel 1967, dopo l'uscita del singolo ''Saga of the Low Down Let Down'' (1967) dei Sopwith Camel, Sievers abbandonò il gruppo per avviare la carriera solista come William Truckaway.<ref name=DI>{{cita web|url=https://www.sopwithcamel.com/Albums.html|titolo=Sopwith Camel Discography|accesso=16 ottobre 2025|lingua=en}}</ref> I Sopwith Camel cessarono la loro attività verso la fine dello stesso anno.<ref name=RS/> Beard e Mayell lavorarono come turnisti per alcuni anni sotto la direzione di Eric Jacobsen; comparvero nei crediti dell'album ''Spirit in the Sky'' (1969) di [[Norman Greenbaum]]. Mayell entrò a far parte dei [[Blue Cheer]], sostituendo il batterista [[Paul Whaley]].<ref name=RS/>
