Line 1:
Brian Curtin was an Irish circuit court judge who was caught with images of child pornography on his computer as a result of Operation Amethyst. His trial was in 2004. However the search warrant the Gardai expired the day before his house was searched and his computer was seized. This made it an illegal search and hence the evidence found on that search (i.e., the child pornography on his computer) could not be used in court. The case against him then had no evidence and he was declared innocent by a court of law. He could then have returned to his job as a judge. This caused great public outrage in Ireland. The Irish Government started trying to sack him. However the Constitution of Ireland only allows for a judge to be removed for 'stated misbehavour', and there are many legal questions about whether or not he can be removed, as the only evidence was as a result of a technically illegal search.
