anti-Soviet bias

Soviet History
Pretty much all articles about Soviet Union, its history, economy and politics were biased to some degree. While they do not appear anti-Soviet, they use a lot of information, which originates from anti-Soviet sources and is false. The reason for that is systematic manipulation of public opinion in the USA (and also in the Soviet Union itself). Since most of the Wikipedia users base their knowledge on American media, books, etc., this causes a noticeable anti-Soviet bias on Wikipedia. The rule of thumb is that at least 90%* of what you know about the Soviet Union is lies and deceit.

* the number is picked out of thin air

Just one example. Soviet coup attempt of 1991 unwittingly pushes one particular interpretation, which is very far from truth. It ignores the report and the timeline of the "coup" prepared by the group of RAS scientists afterwards. It is as manipulative if the 2003 invasion of Iraq included only the official version (or, even worse, only the version from a certain period).

The same problem is prevalent in most articles about the Soviet Union and it will be a huge task to fix this, by bringing all relevant facts into articles, reviewing factual claims, sourcing the information and in general countering the bias. Paranoid 17:00, 17 July 2005 (UTC)
