They are known for their often confusing, somewhat disjointed songs with [[lyrics]] that flow due to their lack of cohesion. TBM's songs are normally made with all normal badn instruments (i.e. guitar, bass, drums) but with the addition of a clarinet. Their three full-sized albums, ''Like Icicles'', ''The Curious Sofa'' and ''Fireworks'', accompany many singles and EP's.
TBM is also well known for founding [[Barsuk Records]], a popular record label among indie artists. Such bands as [[Death Cab for Cutie]], [[The Aqueducts]], [[Rilo Kiley]], and [[They Might Be Giants]] have since been released on the label.
