:I don't know that I'd call it a kludge so much as a stop-gap solution so auto formatting can be salvaged without keeping all the links intact. Unfortunately, it seems we need an implementation poll because things aren't as clear as I'd have hoped. I've gone ahead and created it and I'd welcome some help at the above link.
