Chip Franklin is a comedian in the Baltimore, Washington DC area and host of a talk show on WBAL AM 1090 in Baltimore, Maryland. A self-described libertarian, Franklin often voices concerns over government policy that he considers to be an intrusion into civil liberties. According to a February 22, 2005 article in The Baltimore Sun, Franklin received significant revenue from the Maryland state government to promote its lottery in commercials and other advertisments while voicing opinions in support of Maryland Governor Robert Ehrlich. Quoted in The Sun article, Edward Wasserman, a professor of journalism ethics at Washington and Lee University said, "I'm afraid he's crossed the line" of ethics by claiming to be objective in his radio commentary. Franklin has also been criticized for what some believe to be a hypocritical approach to civil liberties, i.e., claiming that he favors personal freedoms while refusing to air opposing political views.
