==Diseases= Body/Shaft ===
Many diseases, dermotological or otherwise, are common with the First metacarpal bone
===Aptillimitis===
A condition commonly associated with the pinky-side of the hand, [[aptillimitis]] is very serious. It is a condition in which this side of the hand experiences sharp, shooting pains when pressure is added. The shoulder or neck could experience pain as well. This is very fatal if not treated at the origin. Contact a doctor if you experience anything like this, as this is a very serious condition commonly associated with texting, typing, or playing hand-contact sports such as volleyball, basketball, or boxing. Once again, medical help must be contacted if you experience anything along these lines.
===Fractures===
[[Fracture]] are common, but not very painful. They are frequent in the wrist and center of the palm. Fractures need medical help, as they can not heal over time.
== Body/Shaft ==
The body or shaft is thick and broad — averaging {{convert|6|to|11|mm}}. On its dorsal side, the shaft is flat and wide, while the anteroposterior side is less pronounced; usually resulting in a oval-triangular cross-secion.
