Hopewell Township, the much larger municipality in which Hopewell Borough is located, includes the land along the east side of the [[Delaware River]] to which [[George Washington]] and the [[Continental Army]] crossed from Pennsylannia. Once in Hopewell Township, the army marched to [[Trenton, New Jersey|Trenton]] on [[December 25|Christmas Day]], [[1776]]. The [[Battle of Trenton]] followed. Today, [[Washington Crossing State Park]] commemorates this important milestone in American history.

Hopewell is located at 40°23'20" North, 74°45'50" West (40.389005, -74.764010){{GR|1}}.
According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], the borough has a total area of 1.8 [[square kilometer|km²²]] (0.7 [[square mile|mi²²]]). 1.8 km²² (0.7 mi²²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

There arewere 836 housing units at an average density of 467.8/km²² (1,217.5/mi²²). The racial makeup of the borough iswas 95.43% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 1.08% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.49% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.98% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.00% [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 1.23% from [[Race (U.S. Census)|other races]], and 0.79% from two or more races. 2.31% of the population arewere [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race.
There arewere 813 households out of which 36.2% havehad children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.0% arewere [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 11.8% havehad a female householder with no husband present, and 30.9% arewere non-families. 25.1% of all households arewere made up of individuals and 8.6% havehad someone living alone who iswas 65 years of age or older.
