While many have called Richard and the Young Lions a "one hit wonder," their one hit,it ("Open Up Your Door") iswas so impressive that it earned the group an eternal place on the list of greatest garage bands ever. The song was the first ever recorded using an African hair drum and a fuzz bass. It reached #99 on the Billboard charts and #70 on the Cash Box charts in the fall of 1966.

Their two followups were also fabulous garage rock classics. Their swan song, "You Can Make It" was feature on the legendary Pebbles series on Volume 12.
