Line 1:
The Sturgis Charter Public School is a charter school located in Hyannis, Massachusetts. Sturgis was chartered in February 1998 as "Sturgis Charter School". The school opened in September 1998 with 162 freshman, 15 faculty and staff, a newly renovated facility, and a $1.2million budget. Sturgis currently has approximately 350 students and 40 faculty and staff.

The original charter, as approved by the Massachusetts Board of Education (chaired by former BU President John Silber), required ALL Sturgis students to sit for six subject-area exams and meet the other criteria of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. Subsequent amendments have eliminated this requirement, however, all students in the junior and senior year have IB courses as their ONLYonly option.

Sturgis overcame 6 years of poor governance and administration, and was accepted as an IB school in 2005. Since then, the school has elected a new board of trustees, hired a new administration team, and has replaced all of the original staff.

Sports at Sturgis include: Boys and Girls soccer, Field Hockey, Cross Country, Boys and Girls Basketball, Boys and Girls Tennis, Lacrosse, Golf, and Baseball.

Sturgis continues to face criticism from people with no knowledge of the school, its course of study, or the abilities, education, or talents of its staff. Inaccurate, poorly written Wikipedia entries are typical of the type of silly criticism the school regularly faces. Frankly, Sturgis stands as a shining example of the how the charter school system is supposed to work. Sturgis Charter Public School offers alternatives to main stream public education that otherwise would not be available area students. In short, the Sturgis community seeks to work in concert with other area schools to raise the collective standard of education for all. Sturgis is not a threat to the improvement of public education, it is a contributor to it. Please feel free to visit Sturgis the next time you find yourself in Hyannis, and judge for yourself.
