Carey Mansion (formerly Seaview Terrace) is a large Chateau style "cottage" in Newport, Rhode Island. The house was built in 1927 by Edson Bradley who was only able to live in the house for approximately 2 years before his death. The house was left to his only daughter who greatly neglected the property, allowing vines and vegetation that would remain there, clinging and digging into the facade until the late 70's. In the 40's, it became an exclusive girls school, and once again, was neglected. During the late 60's it served as the exterior of Collinwood on the soap opera series Dark Shadows. In 1974 Martin Carey purchased the house and had it renamed Carey Mansion, he had the vines removed and when he discoverd the damage they had caused the facade, he paid thousands to have it repaired. He began several remodeling projects on the western half of the building, but failed to repair several things in the eastern half, which is now closed off and under repair to fix the crubling ceiling and several other things. Due to astronomical costs for upkeep, the third floor, and most of the second and first floors, have been leased to Salve Regina University. But the second floor on the south wing is kept by the Carey's as a large private apartment that they normally use during the summer.

In 1974, Martin Carey purchased the mansion and gave it the name it bears today. Restoration commenced soon after, with particular attention focused on the the crumbling facade. The ivy and vines which had been permitted to grown untamed for decades had caused severe damage to the the facades, which would be repaired to the expense of thousands of dollars. Carey began several remodeling projects on the western half of the building, but hadn't begun to restore several things in the eastern half, which is now closed off and under repair. Due to enourmous costs for upkeep, the third floor and most of the second and first floors have been leased to Salve Regina University. The second floor in the south wing is maintained as the Carey family's private residence, which is used chiefly in the summer months.
