The Brazilian SouJava Java User Group, was founded in 1997 by [[Bruno Souza (programmer)|Bruno Souza]] (JavaMan), Yara Senger, Mauricio (Maltron) Leal, Fabio Velloso, Vinicius Senger. The group was created to promote Java and many OpenSource initiatives around world and specially in Brazil. SouJava User Group is NGO, and one of the biggest Java User Groups of the world, an recent estimative claims that the group can have more than 42.000 members around world.
SouJava is, together with London Java User Group, the creator of the Adopt A JSR Program. SouJava is also the First Java User Group to become a Java Community Process Expert Group Member and it is quite known by the engagement of its members.
