Commercial fishing provides the foundation of the economy for numerous towns on the island including Craig, Klawock, Hydaburg, Port Protection and Point Baker. During the summer, [[Trolling (fishing)|trollers]] and [[seine fishing|seiners]] both fish for all five species of [[Pacific salmon]]. [[Longline fishing|Longliners]] bring up [[halibut]] and [[Anoplopoma fimbria|black cod]]. [[Dungeness crab]] and [[shrimp]] seasons are open throughout the year. During the winter there are dive [[fishery|fisheries]] for [[geoduck]]s, [[sea cucumbers]], and [[sea urchins]].
