The college was founded as an autonomous institute in the year 1996. It is located at the <i>''Takshilla</i>'' campus on [[Khandwa]] Rd., about 5 miles south-east of [[Indore]].

Situated on a large lush green forested campus, IET offers undergraduate and graduate engineering programs in five major disciplines along with hosting a wide variet of research labs and student outreach programs.
