"created by and for the community" I don't see how this is a fact as even community members (e.g. security researcher) needs to pay money to get all data from the items (for example a reference url to mailing list discussion or advisory).

The [[Open Security Foundation]] (OSF) was created to ensure the project's continuing support. On the 5th April 2016, the database was shut down [https://blog.osvdb.org/2016/04/05/osvdb-fin/], although the blog will continue.
