This left both men in singles compitition in WWE on different brands. Doug would return to TV on [[August 27]], [[2005]] edition of ''Velocity'' under '''"The Bash Man" Doug Basham''' gimmick. The Bash Man came out to the ring wearing sunglasses, a shiny leather vest, and shiny wool pants. Doug continued to work [[Squash (professional wrestling)|squash matches]] under this unexplained gimmick sporadically over several months.

While disappearing off WWE TV, Doug would return to [[#Ohio Valley Wrestling|OVW]] for several stints before signing a new deal with WWE in April 2006. [[Dave Meltzer]] reported that the pair of "private security guards" in riot gear, who have recently accompanined [[Paul Heyman]] at ECW events ostensibly to protect him from ECW wrestlers who are angry about his recent actions are the Basham Brothers. On the July 25, 2006 episode of ECW, the guards assaulted [[Nunzio|Little Guido]] under Heyman's orders, signifying that they would be used for more than just "protection".
