Line 19:
Lucca is often made fun of behind her back by townspeople, who claim she could "see the back of the [[moon]] with her [[glasses]]." She is also accused of lacking in mechanical skill, as many of her inventions malfunction. This is increasingly disproved throughout the course of the game.

Lucca lives on a small [[island]] off the coast of Truce Village, where Crono lives, and which is also presumably the capital of the Kingdom of Guardia, of which Marle is princess. Lucca lives on the island in a house with her parents. Her mother Lara remains in the house, having been crippled by an accident ten years before the game takes place. Her father works outside the house constantly, and this causes tension in Lucca's family. Later in the game, it is possible for Lucca to travel back in time to the specific date, [[July 10]]th, [[990]], to save her mother. To do so, Lucca must enter a fail-safe password to deactivate the machine that crippled her mother. The password, "Lara" (the mother's name), is inputted as is in the SNES version (L, A, R, A), and as L1, TriangleCircle, R1, TriangleCircle in the Playstation remake (The Circle button is in the same ___location as the A button on the SNES controller). In Japan, this is (L,A,L,A)
It is revealed, through diary entries found in her room in 990, that Lucca's interest in science came about following her mother's accident, and prior to this she held no interest in the subject. When the accident occurred, Lucca was helping her mother clean the house; leaning over one of her husband's machines to dust it, Lara accidentally switches the machine on, and snags her skirt on the machine's conveyor belt. As she is pulled closer to the wheels that would crush her legs, she cries out to young Lucca to enter the deactivation password. Young Lucca, however, does not know the password and can only look on helplessly as her mother is injured by the machine. In this case, her love of science is born from wanting to become a doctor to help her mother. If, however, the Lucca from the future deactivates the machine, her young self vows to prevent any more accidents, and takes up science so she can help her father build safer machines.
