Generalized MPLS differs from traditional MPLS<ref>GMPLS RFC 3945 "1.2. Multiple Types of Switching and Forwarding Hierarchies"</ref> in that it extends support to multiple types of switching such as TDM, wavelength and fiber (port) switching.
