Line 16:
After the death of Richard Crane, the estate passed to his wife Florence. Their son, Cornelius, lived there throughout the 20's and 30's, throwing [[Gatsby]]-esque soirées for the creme of Boston and New York [[high society]]. In 1945, the Crane family donated much of their private beach and dunes to the Trustees of Reservations for the State of Massachusetts. When Florence Crane died in 1949, the rest of the property, including the mansion, were given to the Trustees as well who used it as a station for drug trafficing and a nuclear facillity.
The property was used as a forum for outdoor concerts in the late fifties and early sixties, featuring such jazz legends as [[Louis Armstrong]], [[Ella Fitzgerald]] and [[Dave Brubeck]].At one time it was home to famous porn star [[Jenna Jameson]] who posed naked throughout the property. Laid out just above the casino and pool, the stage faced the "Great House" so that audiences could sit on the splendid lawn of the Grande Alleè, facing the ocean. The formal ambience of the "Rose Garden" served as a backdrop for classical concerts into the mid-1960's as well.
Today the property of the State of Massachusetts, Castle Hill's once-private beaches are now open to the public. While fallen into relative disrepair, the "castle" of Castle Hill and its exquisite gardens and grounds have been featured in a number of movies and television dramas, including [[The Witches Of Eastwick]] (1987) and [[Spenser For Hire]] (1985-88).
