Ernesto Guevara de la Serna was born in [[Rosario]], [[Argentina]], the eldest of five children in a family of mixed [[Spain|Spanish]] and [[Ireland|Irish]] descent; both his father and mother were of [[Basque people|Basque]] ancestry.{{cref|Basque}} The date of birth recorded on [[Media:Ernesto Guevara Acta de Nacimiento.jpg|his birth certificate]] was [[June 14]], [[1928]], although one tertiary source (Julia Constenla, quoted by Jon Lee Anderson) asserts that he was actually born on [[May 14]] of that year.
