A [[WWE Extreme Rules (2011)|Extreme Rules]] [[John Cena]] vince il titolo WWE sconfiggendo [[The Miz]] e [[John Morrison]] in un Triple Threat Steel Cage Match, nella puntata post [[WWE Extreme Rules 2011|PPV]] The Miz sfrutta la sua clausola di rivincita contro John Cena il quale vince il [[WWE Championship]] colpendo il campione con la cintura senza essere visto dall'arbitro, ma dopo il Match l'arbitro se ne accorge e chiama la squalifica dando la vittoria a [[John Cena]] per squalifica. Nella puntata di Raw del 9 maggio [[The Miz]] sconfigge [[Rey Mysterio]] e [[Alberto Del Rio]] in un Triple Threat Match guadagnandosi la possibilità di sfidare [[John Cena]], più tardi quella notte John Cena ha annunciato che il loro Match sarà un ''I Quit Match''.

A [[WWE Extreme Rules 2011|Extreme Rules]] Christian sconfigge [[Alberto Rodríguez (wrestler)|Alberto Del Rio]] conquistando il titolo dei pesi massimi, ma nell'edizione di [[WWE SmackDown]] del 6 maggio Randy Orton batte Christian conquistando il [[WWE World Heavyweight Championship|World Heavyweight Championship]]. Viene poi annunciato che Orton e Christian si affronteranno a Over the Limit per il titolo di campione del mondo dei pesi massimi.
