Da allora [[Chris Cornell]] ha pubblicato tre album da solista: ''[[Euphoria Morning]]'' del [[1999]], ''[[Carry On (Chris Cornell)|Carry On]]'' del 2007 e ''[[Scream (Chris Cornell)|Scream]]'' del 2009. Nel [[2001]] si è unito ai componenti dei [[Rage Against the Machine]], orfani del cantante [[Zack de la Rocha]], dando vita agli [[Audioslave]]. Gli Audioslave si sciolgono nel 2007, quando De La Rocha torna con i suoi vecchi compagni per riformare i Rage Against The Machine, che terminano ogni collaborazione con Cornell. Il batterista [[Matt Cameron]], nel [[1998]], ha partecipato con i [[Pearl Jam]] al loro Yield Tour, per poi entrare stabilmente a far parte del gruppo.
La notizia ufficiale arriva il 1º gennaio [[2010]], quando [[Chris Cornell]] annuncia tramite [[Twitter]] e sul sito ufficiale: ''"«La pausa di 12 anni è finita ed è ora di ricominciare la scuola.
