This series is about an American-born Chinese "brat" from Beverly Hills named Dong-Jin, most notably known as DJ (Eugene Lee), who is being sent or banished to Singapore by his father, Master Zhang, who is a rich, spoilt and almost-worthless Americanized Chinese, to live with a conservative Chinese family, that is, with the Gohs so that to get his son to stay for two whole years to make him learn from the Gohs about the traditional Chinese culture and influences.

DJ was actually being tricked by his father, thought that he came to Singapore for a holiday vacation when he received a phone call from his father, explaining to him that DJ came to Singapore not for a holiday vacation but to live with the Goh family to learn the traditional Chinese culture and influences from them. However, he did not want to get used to influencing the traditional Chinese way of life. During the stay with the Goh family, DJ is often being threatened or "bullied" by Goh, the master of the house as well as the family. DJ is often regarded as a "Chinese ang moh", a Singlish term for a Chinese person who lives in the West.
