The releases with version numbers below 3.0 were known as MySQL-Front until 2.5. The name has changed in 2006, as Ansgar Becker took his old sources and put them into a new open-source-project at Sourceforge in April 2006.

There was also a programshareware-application called "MySQL-Front 3.0", which was developped by another developper from 2004 to 2006 and had a complete new codebase.

The team around HeidiSQL currently consists of five developers and one designer. The team-members are working on HeidiSQL in their spare time.
