On 29 October 2018, [[Lion Air Flight 610]] crashed into the Java Sea shortly after takeoff from [[Soekarno–Hatta International Airport]] in [[Jakarta]] heading towards [[Depati Amir Airport]] in [[Pangkal Pinang]]. On 9 January 2021, a Boeing 737-500 (PK-CLC) operating as Sriwijaya Air Flight 182 crashed shortly near Laki Island after taking off from Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta Airport on route to Pontianak Supadio Airport, with 62 passengers and crew on board (50 passengers and 12 crew members). This is the deadliest crash in the airline's history.
