On 9 January 2021, a Boeing 737-500 (PK-CLC) operating as Sriwijaya Air Flight 182 crashed shortly near Laki Island after taking off from Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta Airport on route to Pontianak Supadio Airport, with 62 passengers and crew on board (50 passengers and 12 crew members). This is the deadliest crash in the airline's history.
