Line 1:
Jesus of Suburbia is the main character in the band Green Day’s punk rock opera American Idiot. Jesus (not the Christ Jesus) lives in a town called “Jingletown” (the nickname of a suburb in Oakland, where the band records all of their songs). The second song on the album is named after Jesus. It is a mini rock opera in the tradition of The Who’s “A Quick One, While He’s Away.”

In the first part of the opera, which shares a title with the opera itself, we are introduced to Jesus, a Ritalin kid who experiments with drugs “to keep him insane.” The album’s theme is rage against love, and Jesus is the son of that combination. He claims there’s nothing wrong with him, and that he’s how he’s supposed to be in a “land of make-believe.”
