The red-browed amazon, often mistaken for (Amazona rhodocorytha) is a species of parrot in the family Psittacidae. It is endemic to Atlantic Forest in eastern Brazil. It has been considered a subspecies of the blue-cheeked amazon, but today all major authorities consider them separate species. It is threatened both by habitat loss and by being captured for the trade in wild parrots.
Before being designated as a separate species, the Amazona rhodocorytha was thought to be a subspecies of the Amazona rhodocorytha duphresniana. There are only two facilities registered to breed the rhodocorytha. They have made some headway in reintroducing them into their natural habitat in the Brazilian Amazon forests on the coattails of the lion tamarind monkey, the official animal of Brazil. Due to their resemblance to the Red Browed Amazon, an occasional Rhodocorytha will make it past customs into the United States.
