The early history of the manuscript is unknown. In 1821 it was brought by General [[Colin Macaulay]] to England from the Greek island [[Zakynthos]] in the [[Ionian Sea]], after being presented to him by Prince Comuto (Antonios Dimitriou Komoutos, 1748-1833) a former President of the [[Septinsular Republic]]. Comuto inscribed the Codex to Macaulay as a token of his esteem. On his return to England Macaulay presented the Codex to [[British and Foreign Bible Society]] <ref>C.F.
