== Reactions to the Movie ==
In contrary to the high expectations for ''Mrs. Balfame,'' it was not taken as well by society when it was released. One of the complaints was that it did not explain a lot of things too well. Another complaint was that there were some characters from the book in it, but they had no real importance in the movie. It seems like the complaints could be biased because the movie was hyped up so much. The same article did however greatly complement the acting and say the setting and visuals were good. Another comment on the movie was that it is “a splendid picture [with] wonderful acting but too heavy for this neighborhood” (Mrs. M. M. McFaddon, Lincoln Theater). This quote is saying the movie itself was good, but that it was quite dark and not relatable. The link below actually shows two pictures directly from the movie, and one of them is a clip from when the husband is on a booze fueled rampage and choking his wife.
