Popularly, the breed's origin is believed to be traced to ancient [[Egypt]], where a [[bas-relief]] depicting a smooth-coated [[Saluki]] (Persian Greyhound) or [[Sloughi]] was found in a [[tomb]] built in [[4000 BC]].
