Malta elects on national level a [[head of state]] - the [[president]] - and a [[legislature]]. The '''[[House of Representatives of Malta|House of Representatives]]''' (''Il-Kamra tadtar-DeputatiRaprezentanti'') has a minimum of 65 members, elected for a five year term in 13 multi-seat [[constituency|constituencies]] with a possibility of rewarding bonus members for the popular largest party which doesn't succeed in getting absolute majority in parliament. The president is elected for a five year term by the parliament.

Malta has a [[two-party system]], which means that there are two dominant [[political parties]] , with extreme difficulty for anybody to achieve electoral success under the banner of any other party.
