Not in My Terms of Office (Shortened as NIMTO) is a term commonly used in the solid waste management (Garbage) sector to describe a careless attitude among waste generators and general public. In a typical situation, a waste is generated by a member of the public, and this is carelessly thrown in the nearest place most convenient to the person. This causes littering. Even when the littering is too much, to the point the garbage is an aesthetic hazard, not many people volunteer to pick these and place in the right place, such as the waste bin, or a primary or other secondary storage point. The inaction is believed to be attitudinal....they reason that they are not paid to pick garbage.....instead someone somewhere is paid handsomely to do the job...and they should do it without expecting support from anybody else...including key stakeholders such as generators of the waste. They reason....I am not paid to do the job....someone else is.....and this leads to wanton littering and garbage heaps across many cities and urban centres. The term is close to the Not In My Backyard ...a syndrome which refers to generation and careless pushing of the garbage from one's immediate area of influence, to the next neighbour's ___location...and if the next neighbour is offended by the presence of this newly dumped garbage...they push them to the next ___location...and the push continues until this waste gets to either a public land (e roadside, an absentee landlord's site, or a weaker member of the society who has nowhere to push the waste to. This leads to heaps of garbage in either public land, absentee landlord land, or other plots. In all, both NIMBY and NIMTO are considered forms of mental disorder...a syndrome.
