However, it is not Miami's oldest newspaper. ''The Miami Metropolis'', published in 1896, was Miami's first newspaper. ''The Miami Metropolis'' was soon renamed ''The Miami Daily News'', then simply ''[[Miami News'']]; it was ''The Miami Herald'''s longest competitor until 1988 when the ''Miami News'' went out of business.
