1. I don’t think it’s accurate to call it “extremely restricted.” At the time it had fairly typical features. Although it has since been greatly extended, this says nothing about the original version.
2. If we’re quibbling about calling it BAL, I have never head it called “ALC,” while I have always seen/heard “BAL.”
