Il genere è nato all'inizio degli anni [[2000]] con l'uscita del secondo album, [[New Found Glory (album)|omonimo]], dei [[New Found Glory]] e con canzoni come ''[[Fat Lip]]'' dei [[Sum 41]]<ref name="edge"/>.
