Berlo's model is a linear transmission model of communication. It was published by [[David Berlo]] in 1960 and was influenced by earlier models, such as the Shannon–Weaver model and Schramm's model.{{sfn|Berlo|1960|p=[https://books.google.com/books?id=0k9IAAAAMAAJ 40]|loc=3. For Berlo, all forms of communication are attempts to influence the [[Human behavior|behavior]] of the receiver. To do so, the source has to express their purpose by encoding it into a message.{{sfn|Berlo|1960|p=[https://books.google.com/books?id=0k9IAAAAMAAJ 1–22]|loc=1.
