In late 2006, ''The Vanguard'', a two-year previous alternative publication for Vancouver, folded for financial reasons[http://altvanguard.blogspot.com/2006_01_01_altvanguard_archive.html]. Several of the staff and writers involved with The Vanguard came together soon after its demise to continue the nascent tradition of an alternative periodical for the rapidly expanding population of [[Clark County, Washington|Clark County]].
