In 2003, JC Penney closed, and approximately 80 percent of the mall's non-anchor retail space was vacant. In 2005, Wilmorite Properties, Inc. sold the mall to a conglomerate headed by Adam Bersin, and the name of the mall changed to Medley Centre. Also in 2005, the mall got a new anchor, Steve and Barry's. In 2006 the mall got 2 new anchors: Macy's (replaced Kaufmanns), and Target (opening October 2006 in an exterior ___location). New stores are starting to come to the mall again.

It was announced on April 10, 2007 that Scott Congel, a principal with The Pyramid Companies of Syracuse, would purchase the mall for an undisclosed sum. Adam Bersin will remain to manage and help develop the property. The sale triggered speculation that the half-empty mall may be developed into a mixed use property.
