* Per comparare sostantivi si usa ''more.....than'' per il comparativo di maggioranza, ''less'' (con uncountable nouns) o ''fewer'' (con countable nouns)....''than'' per quello di minoranza. Il comparativo di uguaglianza si fa con ''as much... as'' con sostantivi singolari, ''as many...as'' con sostantivi numerabili.<ref>I comparativi e i siperlativisuperlativi possono essere rafforzati facendoli precedere da ''by far'' = di gran lunga (Es.: Brazil is by far the largest country in South America).</ref>

Esempi. Rome has more historic buildings than London (= Roma ha più monumenti storici di Londra). There's less space in this classroom than in the other room (= c'è meno spazio in classe che nelle altre stanze). There are fewer students in my class than in yours (= ci sono meno studenti nella mia classe che nella tua). There is as much fruit as bread on the table (= c'è tanta frutta quanto pane sul tavolo). There are as many boys as girls here (= ci sono tanti ragazzi quante ragazze qui).
