As I read [[WP:REDCAT]], this isn't required (it isn't wrong either, and admittedly has the virtue of consistency with multiple-rcat redirs). Is there some consensus I'm not aware of? I have been creating redirects with a single rcat from time to time recently.

:No, it's just that many templates for redirect categories prefer being in the redr shell, as it is the first thing they display in the preview.
