::::::Why do teachers push such a simplistic narrative about the plum pudding model anyway? When I started going through the original papers by Thomson and Rutherford, I found that the truth deviated considerably from the narrative. The stuff you teach in schools gets the physics right but not the history. And that bugs me because I'm a history guy (Johnjbarton is the actual physicist).
