Smartphone Experts – later called Mobile Nations – launched ''Android Central'' in September 2008 under the guidance of [[Dieter Bohn]], later a founding editor of ''[[The Verge]]''. It was headed for nearly a decade by editor-in-chief Phil Nickinson, who left an 11-year career with a daily newspaper in Pensacola, Florida, to head ''Android Central'' full-time.
