Graphisoft's BIM Server is based on a patented technology.<ref>{{cite web|last=Balla|title=Active building information modeling apparatus and method|url=https://patents.google.com/patent/US20110010134|display-authors=etal}}</ref>
Graphisoft's latest collaboration solution{{
Graphisoft BIM server allows to set up different users and roles for the shared projects, where architects and draftsmen can easily reserve certain parts of the project to further elaborate. In the meantime other members can easily identify who is currently working on a specific building element. Having finished the actual tasks, a user can release the previously reserved elements or other group members can request the release with the built-in communication functions such as instant messages within ArchiCAD between team members.<ref>{{cite book|last=Eastman|first=Chuck|title=Bim handbook a guide to building information modeling for owners, managers, designers, engineers and contractors|date=2013|publisher=Wiley|___location=Hoboken, N.J.|isbn=978-1118021699|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=aCi7Ozwkoj0C&q=bim+server&pg=PT139|edition=Unabridged.|author2=Liston, Kathleen |author3=Teicholz, Paul |author4= Sacks, Rafael |accessdate=26 February 2014}}</ref><ref>{{cite book|last=Gudnason|first=editors Gudni|title=Ework and ebusiness in architecture, engineering and construction proceedings of the European Conference on Product and Process Modelling 2012, Reykjavik, Iceland, 25-27 July 2012|date=2012|publisher=CRC Press|___location=Boca Raton|isbn=978-0203077962|author2=Scherer, Raimar}}</ref>
