:But the purpose of a citation is to provide verification of a statement about the subject, so if a source does not mention the subject, it is rarely of any value as a source, and should usually be removed. If a source contains a passing mention of the subject, it may possibly provide verification for an uncontroversial factual statement in the article (and should be removed if it doesn't), but it cannot contribute to establishing that the subject is [[WP:notable|notable]].
