New Star Sapphire
In issue #15 of Green Lantern, Geoff Johns introduces the new Star Sapphire. Although the gem possesses a girl named Krystal, she is only a temporary host, as the gem seeks out "the body that its chosen Earthmate desires." In issue #18, the gem possesses Carol Ferris, only to release her once she discovers that Hal Jordan bears affection for another. The gem then selects Jillian "Cowgirl" Pearlman. Ferris manages to reveal to Hal Jordan that during the time the gem possessed her, she learned what the Star Sapphire was, but all that was revealed was that they came from "Sector 1416", and two other words: "Zamarons" and "Sinestro". There in fact exists, as a Green Lantern Corps and a Sinestro Corps exist, an entire Star Sapphire Corps, meant to spread "love" troughout the 3600 sectors of the galaxy. Upon finding a parasitic crystal on Zamaron, the female Oans meant to become the Zamarons, refusing the strict ban of all emotions of the Guardians of the Universe, shaped the cyrstal into the Star Sapphire, conferring to spurned lovers of the Green Lanterns strengh and powers to be finally loved from their beloved ones. Once a Star Sapphire and a Green Lantern mate, the Sapphire replicates, encasing every living cell in cristalline formation and spawining new crystals from the Zamarons to use, until all life is forever "protected" from war and hate.
